Inclusion at Locking Stumps
At Locking Stumps Community Primary School, it is our mission to provide a nurturing environment for our children where inclusion and equality are the foundation of success.
Through our School’s values, PSHE, and inclusive ethos, children are taught to respect each other, to be cooperative and collaborative, be supportive, and to look for similarities while being understanding of differences.
The Rainbow Flag Award encourages a whole school approach to LGBT+ inclusion by developing a curriculum that prepares our children for life in the 21st Century, as well as developing strategies to combat LGBT+ bullying. Commitment to the Award is a commitment to improving the lives of our LGBT+ children, their families, and for children with LGBT+ family members.
We want the children to bring their whole self to school; to feel proud and confident enough to talk using the correct and appropriate language about all aspects of their lives with their friends, staff, and families.

Rainbow Flag Award
We aim to continue introduce an awareness of LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, plus other related identities) into school-life. Whilst we have a legal obligation under the Equality Act 2010 (anti-discrimination) to do this, we recognise that this may be considered an emotive and sensitive topic. As such, the School will be committing to The Rainbow Flag Award, a national quality framework focussing on LGBT+ inclusion and visibility in schools.
The School has started this process with our Different Families, Same Love poster campaign around school. Over time, children, parents and carers will see more references to Pride, celebrating differences, and LGBT+ language being introduced into school life. It is our intention to gradually familiarise children with these topics, and The School, along with its Governors, is working hard to ensure this is done in a respectful manner and as smoothly as possible.
We feel passionately that as a School, we have a moral duty to promote inclusion, equality and diversity for all learners. We hope this is something parents, carers and families will support us with.
