A bit about us

Hello!

Welcome to Class 13! I hope you are all ready for an exciting and challenging final year of Primary School. I am sure you have all had a wonderful summer holiday and are all raring to go.

Reading

Reading must be completed at least three times per week at home. Children are also encouraged to read their own books at home, as well as school books. Please make a note of all reading in your homework diaries.

Homework diaries will be checked frequently and signed on a Friday.

As part of our focus on quality reading and comprehension, the children will be expected to complete activities on ‘Reading Plus’ each week. https://login.readingplus.com/

They have been provided with individual log in details to use at home and in school. This will allow children to improve their reading speed, their vocabulary and their comprehension skills.

PE Kits

PE kits must be in school every day. This comprises of a white t-shirt, black shorts and pumps for indoor PE. For outdoor PE, children must have trainers, jogging bottoms and a jumper. These must be plain black, navy or grey.

Homework
Spelling homework will be set each week. You will be given 5 spellings on a Monday morning. They will be stuck in your spelling book which you will then take home. At home you will need to find at least 10 more spellings which follow the rule set in school. You will then be tested the following Monday on the original 5 spellings and others from the list. Maths homework will be set each Tuesday and collected in on the following Thursday. Sometimes you may get an extra piece of topic or literacy homework—usually on a Friday to be handed in on the following Tuesday. And of course there will be the usual half-termly projects which are given out at the beginning of a half-term. They are usually collected in just before a holiday.

HELP!

If there are any parents or grandparents out there that can offer an hour or so a week to hear children read would be greatly appreciated. Please speak to me if interested.

Thunks

We do enjoy a good debate in Year 6, and bearing that in mind I have included some ‘thunks’. Let me know what you thunk…

If I borrow a million pounds am I a millionaire? Which is more important being right or being nice?
