Message From Mrs Evans - Head Teacher

Mrs Evans - Headteacher

A warm welcome to the Locking Stumps Community Primary School website.

I took over as Head Teacher in January 2013 and have loved every minute of my time in that role. I am extremely proud of our school, our staff and children and the relationships that we have with our community.  Our school aims are rooted in the celebration of the achievements and talents of all of our children.

In June 2013 our school was judged as ‘good’ with the Behaviour and Safety element of the inspection judged as ‘outstanding’. This is an outcome that we are justifiably proud of. However,  that doesn’t mean that we are resting on our laurels – nothing could be further from the truth! At Locking Stumps we are always striving to improve the experiences, opportunities and subsequently the achievements of our children.

The current and most recent Ofsted reports can be viewed by clicking here.

The success of the school is due to the hard work and efforts of all members of our school community and the positive, honest partnerships that you have with us. We value all of our children as individuals and endeavour to provide them all with the ‘chance to shine’. I feel strongly that the atmosphere within Locking Stumps is one of care, support and mutual respect. It is a wonderful place to be!

At Locking Stumps, we recognise the importance of the key skills. We have now been awarded  the Basic Skills Quality Mark on five occasions, most recently in 2016.This celebrates our emphasis on Maths and English and we are proud of the consistently high standards our children achieve in these areas by the time they leave our school. However, it is vital to celebrate the wide ranging achievements and talents that our children have in other areas. This is why we have also worked hard to develop an exciting and innovative curriculum which engages our children in their learning. Through our topic work, our children experience a broad and varied range of activities – these experiences are enhanced further by the wide range of extra-curricular activities that we offer.

We are very proud to hold Artsmark Gold award which celebrates provision in the arts and are currently in the process of achieving reaccreditation for the third time. The arts are hugely important to us and we have a strong tradition of providing quality musical experiences and creative opportunities to all of our children.

In July 2016 we were awarded the AfQPE mark which celebrates excellence in the teaching of PE. We were delighted to be one of only four schools nationwide to receive a distinction for our provision.

Over recent years, our school building and premises have been significantly improved. As a result, we now have a school building and facilities of a high standard. We are currently  developing  our playground area to further promote healthy and active playtimes and to contribute to learning activities outside the classroom. Each of our Key Stage One classes has direct access to their own outdoor space so that we can extend the learning opportunities even further.

This website aims to give you an insight into life at Locking Stumps and how children are educated and valued here. However, I would also encourage a visit to the school (including a guided tour from some of our greatest ambassadors – our children) to see it in action. You can be assured of a warm welcome.

Should you wish to visit or to discuss any aspect of the education provided at our school, please do not hesitate to contact the school office to arrange an appointment.

I look forward to meeting you.

Yours sincerely

Jane Evans
