Message From Mr Vermiglio- Head Teacher

Mr Vermiglio - Headteacher

A very warm welcome to Locking Stumps Community Primary School.

It is a privilege to serve as Headteacher of such a caring, ambitious and successful school. After four wonderful years as Deputy Headteacher, I was honoured to become Headteacher in 2017 and have been proud to lead our school ever since. From the moment I first walked through the doors, I knew that Locking Stumps was a special place, and I continue to feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside such dedicated staff, governors, children and families.

At Locking Stumps, children are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to providing a safe, happy and inclusive environment where every child feels valued, supported and inspired to achieve their very best. We have high expectations for all our pupils and believe that every child can succeed when they are nurtured, challenged and encouraged to develop confidence, resilience and a love of learning.

Our curriculum is built around four key drivers:

  • Relationships – helping children build respectful, caring and positive connections.
  • Aspiration – encouraging every child to believe in themselves and aim high.
  • Communication and Language – developing confident, articulate and effective communicators.
  • Health and Wellbeing – supporting happy, healthy and active lifestyles.

Alongside academic achievement, we place great importance on character development. Through our school values, British Values, leadership opportunities and wider experiences, we aim to develop children who are respectful, responsible, resilient and ready to make a positive contribution to society.

Our staff and governors are passionate about providing the very best opportunities for every child. We are immensely proud of the strong relationships that exist between pupils, staff, families and the wider community. Visitors regularly comment on the warmth of our school, the enthusiasm of our children and the positive atmosphere that makes Locking Stumps such a special place to learn and grow.

In February 2022, Ofsted judged our school to be Good, recognising the quality of education and care we provide. We were also proud to be named Warrington Guardian School of the Year, reflecting the dedication and commitment of our entire school community.

We are equally proud of the wider recognition the school has received, including the Educate Award for Mental Health and Wellbeing, the School Games Gold Mark for our commitment to sport and physical activity, and the Primary Science Quality Mark. These achievements reflect our determination to ensure every child thrives both academically and personally.

In September 2024, Locking Stumps proudly joined One Community Trust, working in partnership with schools that share our values, ambitions and commitment to delivering the very best outcomes for children.

Beyond the classroom, we offer a wealth of opportunities including sports, music, clubs, educational visits, residential experiences, outdoor learning, pupil leadership roles and enrichment activities. We believe that primary school should be an exciting and memorable journey, filled with opportunities for children to discover their strengths, develop their talents and create lasting memories.

I hope our website gives you a flavour of life at Locking Stumps. Please take the time to explore our pages, read our handbook and visit our Facebook page, where we regularly share news, achievements, events and examples of the fantastic learning taking place across the school. You can also access our Facebook page using the link at the bottom right of this website.

Most importantly, we would love to welcome you to visit us. Our greatest ambassadors are our children themselves and they will be delighted to show you around and share their experiences of life at Locking Stumps.

We look forward to meeting you and your family.

Best wishes,

Mr Jamie Vermiglio
Headteacher
